Description
 Trey Whitfield School in East New York in Brooklyn has been an oasis of excellence in education and character building for its students since 1983. After operating out of leased, prefabricated buildings on the grounds of a local church, the school in 2004 purchased a five-story, 60,000 SF building, which is located at 48 Williams Street in East New York. Civic Capital Corporation provided a bridge loan to Trey Whitfield School alongside a permanent financing from a local commercial bank to enable the school to purchase and renovate the new building.

The new facility provides a needed anchor for children and their families in one of the more distressed neighborhoods of the city. The school is not only able expand its enrollment, but now has space for a library, auditorium/lunch room, computer room and athletic facilities, which could not be accommodated in the previous facilities. One of the floors has been leased by the local YMCA, which offers after-school programs for the broader East New York Community.

In 2005, Trey Whitfield School was awarded an Honorable Mention for Unique Community Impact at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s 2005 Building Brooklyn Awards.
